Manchester United urged to replace Ruben Amorim with this Old Trafford favourite

Jamie O’Hara urges Manchester United to bring back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United are going through a terrible period right now, with a disastrous start to the season. They have won just one out of the five matches that they have played in all competitions so far this season. United are 14th in the Premier League points table right now, and this is also the club’s worst league start in 33 years. League 2 side Grimsby Town knocked United out of the Carabao Cup this season, and all these results have intensified the pressure on manager Ruben Amorim.

The team finished 15th in the Premier League table last season, lost the Europa League final and is also not part of European competition this season. The Portuguese has stuck to his 3-4-2-1 formation but has failed to make things work for United. The board has continued to back him on and off the field, but it feels like he is nearing the end of his tenure if the results continue in the same fashion.

Jamie O’Hara backs Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Meanwhile, former English midfielder Jamie O’Hara wants Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to take over as the Manchester United stopgap manager by replacing Ruben Amorim. The 38-year-old feels that Ole could bring United back on track with the formation that he used during his tenure at Manchester United. O’Hara feels that Ole provided confidence to the players and more freedom on the pitch. United’s board could ease the tension surrounding the club and get the team back on track by appointing him yet again.

Here is what O’Hara told Sky Sports News (h/t Mirror):

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ain’t the worst shout in the world. He can come in, he can be a stopgap manager, an interim manager, and get players back onside. I believe that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, if you get him back in, go back to the formation that they were playing before, get the players back onside, give them a bit of freedom, and I think they can maybe just calm everything down.”

When might United finally sack Amorim?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to replace Ruben Amorim at Manchester United?

The club’s hierarchy might be supporting Amorim at this moment, but things could change swiftly if the team does not improve its results on the field. The board will definitely monitor the performance and the results in the upcoming matches against Chelsea, Brentford, and Sunderland. However, we also have to keep in mind that the board has to pay £12m if they decide to sack Amorim before his first anniversary as the club’s manager in November.

Bringing back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might evoke nostalgia for some fans, but it seems unlikely to provide a long-term solution. While he initially enjoyed a positive spell, leading United to a second-place league finish in 2020-21 and embracing a counter-attacking style, his later tactical inflexibility and inability to secure silverware ultimately led to his departure.

His subsequent short and unsuccessful stint at Besiktas further reinforces doubts about his suitability for a top-tier club like United. The club needs a manager with a clear, modern tactical identity and a proven track record of consistent success at the highest level. While Solskjaer embodies some of the “United Way,” his previous tenure didn’t ultimately deliver. We have also had reports stating that United might look to Unai Emery as a potential replacement for Amorim.
