Elche are yet to reach an agreement with Manchester United outcast Tyrell Malacia
Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia has now spent 550 days away from the pitch due to a long-term knee injury, and despite returning in November 2024, he has not had the chance to play consistently under Ruben Amorim. He was then sent on loan to PSV in January 2025, where he was put in the bomb squad upon his return, and is now exploring options to leave the club.
The wing-back role in Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 system has been filled by new signings such as Patrick Dourgu and others. This has made Malacia’s path at Old Trafford even more difficult. The club are open to a loan move, but his contract expires next summer with an option for an extension, so his future remains uncertain.
Transfer report on Malacia
The situation of the Dutchman is quite complicated at United right now. Elche wanted to sign him on a season-long loan deal, but reports from journalist Joost Blaauwhof reveal that the Spanish club have still on agreed on any deal with Manchester United, as the Dutchman has still not given his yes for a move to Elche, and is yet to agree on personal terms with the Spanish side.

Malacia is absolutely no longer wanted by the club, as Ruben Amorim has options like Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu and Diego Leon, and hence the future of the 26-year-old stands closed at Old Trafford. Malacia played on loan at PSV in the second half of the previous season, but the Dutch club did not agree on a permanent transfer this summer. The reports of the deal with Elche provided a respite for us, but now the recent report has quashed all the rumours.
Looking at the reports of this transfer, our opinion is that Tyrell Malacia should immediately make a move that gives him the chance to play regularly at this crucial point in his career, as he needs to become the primary choice at Elche or any other club. Spending more time in the bomb squad or struggling for minutes will only set his development back further and perhaps cause permanent damage to the 26-year-old’s career.
Therefore, the Dutchman should be willing to accept a lower salary if it will pave the way for him to get on the pitch and rebuild his reputation by showing his willingness to play. On the other hand, Manchester United should take decisive steps to fix this situation, as Malacia clearly does not fit into Ruben Amorim’s plans, and keeping a disgruntled player on a high salary does not benefit anyone.
In order to secure a deal with Elche, the club would have to be flexible on the loan fee, and perhaps cover some of his wages themselves to make it attractive to the Spanish club. We should look at this as an opportunity for the player to regain his form and grow in value in the future, rather than trying to maximise every penny in the short term.
If the Elche deal doesn’t work out, United should have backup plans in place, such as a loan to the Championship or lower European leagues, where starting spots are more likely to be available. The club should actively pitch Malacia to potential clubs and highlight his pre-injury performances.
