Newcastle United have expressed an interest in signing highly-rated Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo
The future of Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United has been a hot topic in the last couple of days.
The England international, who broke into the senior setup with high expectations during the 2023/24 season, has received no minutes in the club’s opening two Premier League fixtures. The midfielder has every right to be disappointed with his head coach Ruben Amorim’s team selection and substitutions against both Arsenal and Fulham.
The youngster’s omission at the start of the new campaign has raised eyebrows and prompted questions about his long-term future at Old Trafford. In fact, it has also left Kobbie Mainoo in the limbo as far as his immediate role under Ruben Amorim is concerned.
Long considered one of Carrington’s most exciting talents, Mainoo’s opportunities in the first team have been scarce since Amorim’s appointment last November. He also spent months on the sidelines during the 2024/25 campaign, making just 25 Premier League appearances. And the central midfielder’s no involvement so far this term has only intensified speculation surrounding his future before next week’s transfer deadline.

Newcastle United contact Manchester United over Mainoo deal
According to journalist Jason Soutar on X, Newcastle United have contacted Man United to ask about the condition of a potential Mainoo deal. The youngster is open to leaving the club just days before the transfer window slams shut.
Mainoo, who has entered the final 24 months of his contract at Old Trafford, has fallen down the midfield pecking order. After the 1-1 draw with Fulham, Amorim said the England international is fighting with captain Bruno Fernandes for a place in the starting XI. Judging by who he is in direct competition with in the United side, the Stockport-born talent might have been frustrated with Amorim’s words last weekend.
The Portuguese tactician has opted for the likes of Fernandes, Mason Mount, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte ahead of Mainoo as options in the middle of the park against Arsenal and Fulham. With the World Cup happening next summer, Mainoo would know the importance of getting regular minutes this season. He’d loathe to miss out on a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, so it appears that an exit from his boyhood club, at least on loan, would benefit the young gun.

INEOS cannot let Mainoo leave the club
Newcastle have made their interest in Mainoo clear by contacting United, but what staggers the fans is that INEOS would reportedly allow their rising star to leave before Monday’s transfer deadline if the right offer comes. The player has been in talks with the club over a new deal, so INEOS’ recent stance on him looks totally bizarre.INEOS cannot let Mainoo leave
Selling the best talent to emerge from the academy since Paul Pogba would pit the fans against INEOS. It is high time for every party involved- Mainoo, Amorim and the hierarchy- to sit down and have transparent conversation. It absolutely makes no sense to part ways with a sublime talent like Mainoo, someone who has the potential to be a superstar in the near future.
