Jadon Sancho is demanding his loyalty bonus from Manchester United to leave Old Trafford this summer
Manchester United’s situation are complicated at the moment and the main reason for this is Jadon Sancho. The club have had a difficult start to this season as well, just like last season. The defeat to Arsenal and the draw against Fulham in the first two matches of the Premier League have made the atmosphere even heavier.
Ruben Amorim’s team are struggling on the field and also outside in the transfer window. Sancho’s name is constantly in the headlines as he still cannot see a way out of Old Trafford. Roma had shown interest, Chelsea have already backed out this summer, but the matter is not ending. The main reason is his salary, and now the demand for loyalty payment.
Stefan Borson’s report and Sancho’s situation
Speaking to Football Insider, Manchester City’s former financial advisor Stefan Borson said that Sancho’s situation is not so easy. He said that Sancho is earning around £300,000 per week and his contract is till June 2026. In such a situation, it is not easy for any club to sign him. According to the report, if Sancho leaves United now, he should get a loyalty payment of around £10million. Borson indicated that the player is not ready to give up this amount and is also not accepting a huge pay cut.

Roma had offered a deal of around £20 million, but according to him, this was their maximum limit. This means that even if United get £20 million, half of it will have to be given to Sancho. This will benefit the club by only £10million. Borson believed that this is the reason why the deal is stuck.
United are not agreeing to this amount, and Sancho is not ready to give up his loyalty bonus. This is the reason why the English winger was not even seen in the squad for the first two matches. Chelsea also did not buy the 25-year-old permanently after last season’s loan, which clearly shows that his value has fallen. United are not able to sell him easily, even if they want to.
“I mean, there must be a bit more to that than meets the eye.”
“I think he obviously is not prepared to take a huge wage cut for the final season, and he’s also probably not prepared to waive the various loyalty payments that are due right now. Okay, so from that perspective, I don’t know what the number is, but let’s say it’s £10million that he’s owed by Manchester United if he moves.”
“So, he’s not moving until he’s got certainty that he’s going to be paid that £10million, especially not in a scenario where United are getting a £20million fee.”
“So, it may be a situation where Roma said, our total contribution to this deal is £20million, how you deal with it with the player is up to you, but we’re not paying more than £20million.”
“And really that offer when you actually get down to it, given that it’s got all of these payments that need to be made to Sancho for United is actually a net £10million deal.”
“Presumably, United are not prepared to do that deal, and the player is not prepared to effectively waive £10million, so there’s no deal.”
What should United do?
Now the question is what step should United take in this situation. Should the club give Sancho £10 million and let him go or keep him on the bench until June 2026? Paying £300,000 a week and not getting any contribution from him in return is a loss-making deal for the club. Still, paying so much money just to get him out seems difficult.
From Sancho’s point of view, it is understandable that he did not give up £10 million because football careers are short and players want to keep their earnings safe, but as United fans it seems that at this age he should give priority to playing. The money is already enough, and regular football can give his career the right direction again.
A team like Roma had offered £20 million to our club, so United should probably not insist too much. His value is already low due to salary and loyalty bonus. If the club wait too long, the situation will worsen. The truth is that United need to get Sancho out at any cost as his presence is becoming a liability for the team, and hence the club might have to settle for paying him the loyalty bonus.
