Manchester United eyeing late summer move for Sevilla star to reinforce the midfield

Manchester United are looking to secure the signing of Lucien Agoume from Sevilla this summer

Manchester United had a disappointing season in 2024/25. A 15th-place finish in the 2024/25 Premier League and a loss in the Europa League final against Tottenham left fans stunned. Still, there was hope for a new start under Ruben Amorim. Big names like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, as well as the recruitment of young Diego Leon this summer, added to the excitement. However, are these changes enough? News of another signing got fans’ pulses racing.

Lucien Agoume: The new force in midfield?

A recent report from Fichajes has Manchester United fans excited. The club are now eyeing 23-year-old French midfielder Lucien Agoume from Sevilla. Initially, there were attempts to sign Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, but his £115 million price tag made a deal impossible. Following this, United opted for Agoume as an affordable option. With four goal contributions in 35 La Liga matches for Sevilla last season, Agoume impressed with his physical strength and ability to break up attacks in midfield. Sevilla’s financial difficulties could force them to sell him for £20 million.

Can Agoume change Amorim’s vision?

Lucien Agoume’s potential transfer is an exciting prospect for Manchester United fans. Ruben Amorim’s tactics require a quick, physical and dynamic midfielder, and Agoume fits the profile very well. His 83% passing accuracy and progressive passing (78.9 percentile) make him ideal as a box-to-box midfielder.

Lucien Agoume: Manchester United’s next midfield maestro?

At Sevilla, he balanced offensive play with defensive contributions (2.9 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per 90 minutes). In Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation, Agoume could pair up with Kobbie Mainoo or Bruno Fernandes in midfield, creating better synergy between defence and attack.

However, this deal is not so easy as it seems like. United have already spent over £200 million on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Diego Leon and Benjamin Sesko. Players like Antony, Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho need to be sold to balance the finances.

Without a sale, this transfer could perhaps be delayed until 2026. Still, given Agoume’s low price and his talent, this deal could be a smart investment. As fans, we are optimistic that Agoume can bring the energy to the midfield that was missing last season. Casemiro is at the fag end of his career, and the 23-year-old could very well be the perfect young defensive midfielder for our side.
