Manchester United are scouting Ricardo Mathias in the summer transfer window
The 2024/25 season brought another disappointment for Manchester United and the club’s devoted fans. Finishing 15th in the Premier League points table, losing to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final and failing to qualify for any European tournaments for next season were disastrous for a club as elite as the Red Devils.
Ruben Amorim took the bench mid-season, but the situation was so bad that even a miracle was not enough to salvage the season. Now the club have to work off the field to regain the lost identity, and this summer there has been a lot of activity in the office.
United’s performance have been on the decline over the past few years. The team that once fought for the title are now stuck in mid-table or the bottom half of the table, like the previous season. A change was felt to be needed, and this time the board made a move quickly in the transfer market.
High-profile signings such as Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were added to the squad, as well as young Diogo Leon. In addition, the club also signed Benjamin Sesko after Rasmus Hojlund’s poor form last season. These moves indicate that Amorim and the club are definitely banking on new blood.
Eye on Ricardo Mathias
Moving on to our latest news, 19-year-old Brazilian forward Ricardo Mathias is now on United’s radar. According to a report by Globo Esporte, as relayed by Sport Witness, the club’s scout Alexandre Torres made an appearance at Internacional’s match against Fluminense this week to get a closer look at him. Mathias showed flashes of form by coming on as a substitute even as his side crashed out of the Copa do Brasil.

Mathias has great talent and possesses pace, ball control and great positioning sense. He is young, but he does have the confidence to shine on the big stage. Internacional have him tied down until 2028, and his release clause is €65m. The 19-year-old’s market value has risen from €1m to €4m in the past year, which is a clear sign of his growth.
Opinion:
We think signing a player like Ricardo Mathias would fit into Amorim’s plans and help us in long-term growth. Amorim likes fast, versatile and hardworking forwards, and Mathias has all three qualities. If Sesko remains the team’s number one striker, Mathias can get good time in rotation and cup matches, which will be essential for his growth.
It is good to be investing in young talents as well as the club need to build for the future, but for the time being, we think the club will be looking to scout the youngsters only.
However, the deal will not be easy as other Premier League clubs are also in contention. However, taking a risk on such young stars is important in United’s current situation. This will not just be a future investment but a message that Manchester United are now trying to get back to the old days. So, let’s hope for the best.
