Manchester United keen to beat Brentford to Idrissa Gueye
Last season was nothing short of a nightmare for Manchester United. Finishing 15th in the Premier League was embarrassing for a club whose walls still echo the memories of Sir Alex Ferguson’s era. Losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final ended whatever little hope was left. Exiting European competitions for the 2025/26 season was the last blow on this falling graph. Yes, Ruben Amorim took over the reins mid-season, but it was too late by then.
Now preparations are being made for a new beginning in the next season. This summer, the club added two strong names—Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Along with them, young Diogo Leon has also joined the team. The direction of the club is clear that we don’t want leisure, we want change. Amorim will get time in the new structure of INEOS, but time alone will not do anything. United are now taking every step carefully, and one such step could be the next one.
Idrissa Gueye: A clever move for the future?
Manchester United are now reported to be keen to sign 18-year-old Idrissa Gueye from French club Metz. The Manchester Evening News reports that United are now ready to take on Brentford, who already have Gueye on their radar. The Sun, as relayed by MEN, reveals that Burnley are also in the race. Gueye is valued at around £15 million.

Gueye is quick, powerful and can position himself perfectly in the box. He tallied six G/A in Ligue 2 last season. The Senegalese prodigy has established himself as a solid striker at Metz, and given his age, there is plenty of room for improvement. In Amorim’s system, he can play both centre-forward and on the right wing.
Why do United want Gueye?
We believe that the arrival of Gueye would point the club in the right direction for the future. Another young attacker behind Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee is a must, given that they have not been at their best last season. Gueye’s pace and movement in the box will fit Amorim’s high-pressing strategy. Although he is not fully ready, he could gradually play a bigger role in the League Cup and in a substitute role.
Brentford could promise him immediate first-team action, but United’s name and Amorim’s coaching could provide a better environment for long-term plans. INEOS’ youth-focused model would require a player like Gueye. If United were to snatch Gueye from Brentford and Burnley, it would be a sign that the club are no longer in tatters, but are rethinking their future.
