Manchester United desperately want to sell Alejandro Garnacho this summer
Last season became one of the most painful episodes in Manchester United’s history. The season ended in 15th place in the Premier League, and the final nail was hammered in by a loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final. After this humiliating performance, the next year will pass without any European competition, which is a direct slap on the face of the club’s stature and expectations. Ruben Amorim was appointed midway through the previous season, but by then a lot of damage had been done.
Now it’s not just about the past defeat, but about new changes and decisions that are trying to revive the club. This summer, United have signed two important players—Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Young Diogo Leon has also been brought in, which seems to be part of the long-term plan. Marcus Rashford has been sent to Barcelona, albeit temporarily, but it’s clear that Amorim now wants his team’s wage bill reduced.
Garnacho’s departure
The most surprising move now is Alejandro Garnacho. According to ESPN‘s report, Garnacho has been left out of the pre-season tour and is training on his own. The club have slashed his price tag from £70m to £40m, signalling they want to get the deal done as soon as possible. Aston Villa, Chelsea, Napoli and Bayern Munich have expressed interest, but no one has made a formal offer yet.

Garnacho’s talent is no secret. Despite his pace, dribbling ability and match-winning ability, his relationship with the club appears to be falling apart. His energy and ability to add flair to the attack are not a match for Amorim’s plans, and when the rift between coach and player is this big, decisions should not be taken too late.
A United fan’s view: This decision is bitter, but the right one
As United fans, it breaks our hearts to see the Argentine no longer part of the club’s plans. However, the truth is that the club now need to focus more on needs than emotions. When a young player is sidelined from training and left out of pre-season tours, it is not a hint but a clear indication that he is not in the club’s plans.
The price tag dropping from £70m to just £40m is a little disappointing, but it is a pragmatic move given the current circumstances. Amorim needs a striker, and we have options like Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, who broke the trust last season. With the money from selling Garnacho, we can bring in a top striker, which is the biggest need for the club.
Now that clubs like Bayern, Chelsea, and Napoli are showing interest, United must not waste time. A good deal needs to be agreed on quickly. Garnacho’s future may lie away from Old Trafford, but if we can get a genuine number nine in return, the deal will be beneficial to the club. Now is the time to make a decision, setting emotions aside.
