Manchester United want Gianluigi Donnarumma to replace Andre Onana this summer
The 2024/25 season has been a punishment for us, Manchester United fans. Finishing 15th in the Premier League was completely opposite to our expectations. We lost our last hope after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. Exiting European football was a gut-wrenching moment. Bringing in Ruben Amorim mid-season was a bold move, but it was too late. There was some semblance of improvement in results, but the team’s depth, confidence and tactical understanding seemed completely shattered.
Now that the new season is near, the club have started healing their old wounds. We have made our intentions clear by bringing in players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer. Young Diogo Leon has also joined the squad. Ruben Amorim has made it clear that he wants not just change, but strength, and so all eyes are now on the goalkeeper role that was criticised the most last season.
Amorim eyes Donnarumma
According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United are now trying to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma, who won the UCL last season. PSG’s Italian goalkeeper’s current deal expires next year, and he has turned down a new contract. The Ligue 1 club are willing to sell him, and we are looking to sell our goalkeeper, André Onana, for £20 million. Although Onana wants to prove himself in the Premier League, Amorim is now looking for a new No. 1.
Donnarumma: The one who can restore trust

Donnarumma is not just a shot-stopper. The Italian’s big-match performances at PSG have made him elite. He has the height, reflexes and the ability to stop penalties. The 26-year-old is counted among the top goalkeepers in Europe. His presence will be crucial not just in the goal but also in leading the defence. The news of his move from PSG has given United a rare opportunity.
Our opinion: This move could be in the right direction
As Manchester United fans, we are a little excited about the news of bringing in Donnarumma, but not completely convinced. We have to remember that just bringing in a big name is not enough, but the right decisions at the right time are important. If Donnarumma comes, he can provide stability to our defence, which was completely in shambles last season. His experience and young age can benefit us in the long run.
However, first we have to sort out the Onana situation. If he is not willing to leave, how do we make way for a new number one? £20 million is a reasonable figure, but will any club pay that much? Perhaps the Saudi Pro League or Monaco can do so. Amorim has to make a decision soon; otherwise, Donnarumma could be part of another club. If Amorim completes the deal, it could be a major turning point for our defensive line. We need strong decisions like these after last year’s embarrassment.
