Manchester United outcast Antony attracting interest from Saudi Arabia
The 2024/25 season proved to be painful for Manchester United. 15th place in the Premier League, defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final and then exit from European competitions in the 2025/26 season—all these raised questions about the club’s future. Ruben Amorim was brought in mid-season, but he too could not save this sinking ship. Now the question is, will United’s decline stop here or is something going to change?
From the beginning of this summer transfer window, the club have indicated that lessons will now be learnt from past mistakes. By signing two big names like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, United have intensified the attack. Young Diogo Leon has also arrived. Sending Marcus Rashford to Barcelona also seems to be part of the same strategy, and that is to remove those players who no longer fit into the plan. However, the story does not end here. There are some more names in the queue who can leave the club soon.
Antony’s departure likely and a new twist
Now reports are suggesting that interest from Saudi Arabia is growing for Antony. According to a Sky Sports report, two Saudi Pro League clubs have shown interest in the Brazilian winger. Manchester Evening News has also reiterated this report. Although the names of the clubs have not been revealed, Saudi’s interest in the 25-year-old right-winger is constantly growing.

Real Betis also wanted to re-sign Antony, but that possibility now seems remote. Antony was bought by United for around £87 million in 2022, and now the club need at least £32.8 million to avoid losses. Despite the Brazilian’s fast pace, dribbling and occasional brilliance, he has not lived up to expectations.
Trying to get out of a stagnant phase
As United fans, we believe that Antony’s departure could be a boon for the club at this time. The player we spent £87m on has not shown a fraction of his value on the pitch. He has been a disappointment and does not seem to be in Amorim’s plans. If any Saudi club buy him, the club’s financial situation may improve.
However, for me, the bigger thing is that the club are finally ready to correct their mistakes. Antony’s transfer will not be just a name’s departure; it will be a departure from the thinking that has led us to this abyss in the last three years. Amorim’s actions show that he is relying on practical thinking rather than emotional decisions.
If Antony wants to stay in Europe, as he is just 25 years old, he will not find good options. Real Betis insist only on a loan move, and frankly, that’s not helpful to us. Although Atletico Madrid were interested, we have to see how that story develops. The Saudi offer may be his last real choice. If he leaves, United will get relief and perhaps a new direction. We have to make the right decisions this time, otherwise next season will be the same as last year – empty, dull and embarrassing.
