Chelsea remain keen on Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho despite eyeing Xavi Simons
Alejandro Garnacho is one of the few players who has excited the world at Old Trafford. His self-confidence, his dribbling, and his ability to decide games when things get tough have earned him a special affection from Manchester United fans. However, modern football is relentless, and rumours about his future are once again generating tension. This time, Chelsea’s name is being mentioned loudly. Fabrizio Romano claims the London club have him on their wish list, although their current priority is Xavi Simons. The noise is starting to become uncomfortable, even more so when it comes to possible figures and a sale that could be imminent if there is no change of direction.
Manchester United’s Uncertain Present and the Importance of Garnacho
Since Ferguson’s departure, Manchester United haven’t been that dominant team again. We have had some good, others disastrous, but never a true consistency. Ten Hag’s project started with enthusiasm, but he was sacked mid-season in 2024/25. Ruben Amorim arrived, but we lacked goals, creativity, and, above all, consistency. Garnacho, despite his age, became one of the few who made a difference. That’s why it hurts to see how the club seems willing to listen to offers for him, but he has fallen out of favour under Amorim, and the club also wants to sell him to fund more signings after Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Rumours return, and a club are attentive
Fabrizio Romano has once again set off alarm bells. Chelsea are still monitoring the Argentine’s situation. Although there are no direct negotiations between clubs, the 21-year-old remains on their list. The signing of Xavi Simons is their priority, but if that stalls, Garnacho could return to the front line. United, who are seeking funds to strengthen their squad, are reportedly willing to accept less than the initial €70 million. The figure could drop to €40-50 million.
Is Garnacho really what Chelsea are looking for?

Garnacho has talent, pace, daring, and a left foot that always threatens. However, his performances have been inconsistent. Furthermore, there have been reports of off-field attitudes that raise doubts. Chelsea, with young players like Joao Pedro, Gittens, and Liam Delap, already have plenty of attacking options. If they end up signing Simons for a fee close to €60 million, spending another €40 million on Garnacho might not be viable.
If Chelsea really prioritise Simons, as is being said, Garnacho’s move is likely just a backup plan. In that case, United should hold on and not give in. We can’t become a club that develops talent just for others to enjoy. There are times when the club have to take a stand, and this is one of them. If they want to take him, the Blues should pay what he is worth, despite us looking to sell him to fund a striker or defensive signing. However, we are not sure if the Blues will make a move for him if they do secure Simons.
