Manchester United star Harry Maguire left out of the pre-season tour squad
Manchester United’s pre-season tour squad has raised eyebrows after five notable absentees were left out of the travelling group. While speculation has swirled around each of them, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via X has now confirmed the reasons behind the omissions and what fans can expect in the weeks ahead.
Among those missing the tour are Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia. All four have now been formally made available for transfer by the club, with manager Ruben Amorim opting not to include any of them in his immediate plans.
Maguire absence explained
The biggest name missing from the squad, however, is Harry Maguire, and while some reports quickly suggested a potential exit, Fabrizio Romano has put those rumours to bed.
“Harry Maguire also not with the team but only due to personal reasons, he will be back soon.”
Unlike the other four, Maguire’s exclusion from the pre-season squad has nothing to do with a transfer decision, and he is expected to return to the team in the coming days.
With the former captain’s future under regular scrutiny, this clarification is an important one. Maguire remains a United player and is part of Amorim’s squad unless a formal offer is made and accepted, which, as of now, has not happened.
Garnacho, Antony, Sancho, and Malacia considered expendable
What will not come as a surprise is United’s decision to part ways with four relatively young, high-profile names. Garnacho, once considered a cornerstone for the future, has now been placed on the transfer list, an indication that Ruben Amorim is reshaping the squad with zero sentimentality.
Antony and Sancho, both big-money signings, have failed to live up to expectations and will be moved on if suitable bids arrive. Tyrell Malacia, meanwhile, has struggled with injuries and form and is also deemed surplus to requirements.
From a Manchester United fan’s perspective, this kind of ruthless squad trimming might sting in the short term, but it shows Amorim is not here to play it safe.
