Manchester United keep pressing for Senne Lammens
Manchester United’s goalkeeping position has been the subject of debate for months. Although André Onana arrived with high expectations, his inconsistency last season and recent injury have created uncertainty. He was good in some matches, but in others, the Cameroonian made mistakes that cost points. As the team try to return to the level demanded by their history, mistakes between the posts cannot continue. Royal Antwerp want to sell him, having brought in his replacement. Marc Overmars made it clear: Lammens must leave. The figure being discussed is around €15-20 million. The Red Devils’ interest, they say, has become more serious as the weeks have gone by.
At 23, Lammens has shown potential. Tall, agile and brave, he is a goalkeeper who stands out for his reflexes and his ability to stop difficult shots. The Belgian’s performance in the Belgian league, where he has led in saves and goals prevented, has caught the attention of several clubs, including Galatasaray. However, he wants the Premier League, as he wants to test himself at the highest level.
A logical bet, but with risks
As Manchester United fans, this kind of move excites us, but it also makes us think. Signing Lammens would be a bet on the future. Unlike Emiliano Martínez, who costs much more and is already 32 years old, Lammens represents a smart investment. He has huge potential and could become a long-term figure if given time.
However, the Belgian’s lack of experience in big competitions is a weakness. It is unclear how he will react to the pressure at Old Trafford or in decisive matches. United cannot afford to continue experimenting without results, and if Onana does not improve or remains out, can Lammens take on the role of first-choice goalkeeper from day one?
Despite everything, we think it’s worth it. The club need to make decisions with vision. We can’t keep signing players based on their name or past. If Lammens arrives, he must go through a serious adaptation process. With good planning, he could be one of those gems that surprise everyone.
