Manchester United accelerate talks for French striker with 12 goals last season

Manchester United are stepping up interest in Randal Kolo Muani

Manchester United are still looking for solutions in the ongoing summer transfer window. After a disastrous season the club are trying to get back on track. The arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have brought some energy back, but the problem up front has not been solved. The departure of Marcus Rashford and the underperformance of Rasmus Hojlund and Josua Zirkzee have left the team with a glaring void. needs support, and it doesn’t seem enough with what’s in the squad. Now, with our target Hugo Ekitike heading to Liverpool, eyes are turning to another French name.

In recent seasons, the club has been on a rollercoaster ride. From Cristiano’s return to the emergence of youngsters like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, everything has been unpredictable. Lack of tactical continuity, coaching changes and the inconsistency of key players have complicated any attempt to build something solid. Ruben Amorim arrived with promises of tactical freshness, but the challenge remains enormous, and that is to find players who fit into his system without losing identity. The pressure is mounting, rivals are strengthening, and Manchester United need more than just excitement.

Direct contact with Kolo Muani

According to Foot Mercato, United have already intensified contacts with Randal Kolo Muani, a 25-year-old striker who has just returned to PSG after a loan spell at Juventus. Newcastle are also interested, but Old Trafford see a clear opportunity. With Ekitike ruled out, the Frenchman becomes a viable alternative. Kolo Muani did not shine in Paris, but his time at Eintracht Frankfurt left its mark. His energy, mobility and link-up skills are eye-catching.

Randal Kolo Muani could be a shrewd addition for Manchester United, but he’s not the complete answer to their striker woes.
Randal Kolo Muani could be a shrewd addition for Manchester United, but he’s not the complete answer to their striker woes.

Kolo Muani is not a classic number nine, but he is not a pure winger either. He can drop to the flanks, press high and combine with playmakers. The Frenchman has vision and pace, although his finishing has been inconsistent. His most productive season was in Germany, where he scored 23 goals. At PSG, however, he scored just two in 14 appearances. The question is whether he can regain his confidence and find a tactical context that will enhance him. Kolo Muani scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 36 games across all competitions in the 2024/25 season.

Is he good enough for United?

For us, as fans, we are excited by the idea. Kolo Muani is not a poster star, but neither is he a decorative signing. He has useful traits for a system like Amorim’s. If the coach insists on a 3-4-2-1, he needs a striker who not only finishes attacks but who moves, attracts markers and connects with the attacking midfielders, and Kolo Muani can do just that. His versatility is a clear advantage; he can complement Hojlund or replace him depending on the opponent.

However, we have our reservations as well. The lack of recent goals cannot be ignored. United doesn’t just need fluidity; they need consistent goals. We need someone who can make a difference in tight games. Kolo Muani has not shown that killer profile in his last few months. While his talent is evident, his confidence seems fragile. The Frenchman would be a good reinforcement, but he should not be the priority one. Kolo Muani should be looked at if we fail to get Ollie Watkins or Benjamin Sesko. Kolo Muani can improve United’s attack, but he won’t transform it on his own. He would make us more dangerous, more dynamic, but not necessarily more lethal. This team still lacks a reliable goalscorer. Hopefully, the club won’t settle.
