Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Manchester United want to buy a new striker, but a lot depends on sales. The Red Devils have moved quickly in the summer transfer window to improve the attacking department under manager Ruben Amorim.
Amorim deploys a 3-4-2-1 formation and has struggled to install his tactical philosophy into the team he acquired last season. Furthermore, the squad has struggled to adjust to the 3-4-2-1 formation, conceding many goals and continuously failing to create threats.
The quick signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves created a strong foundation in the transfer market for the Red Devils. United quickly moved to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo and have just agreed on a hefty transfer fee for him.

The combined fee of more than £130m for Cunha and Mbeumo puts United in a problematic situation at this time. The Red Devils have not sold any players for now, while having multiple surplus players that Amorim wants to sell.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that United are depending on multiple sales to sign a new main striker. He said:
“Manchester United want to bring a new striker this summer; they are working on that already. They made some calls in recent days and weeks to be informed. Obviously, the budget will also depend on the outgoings, and now for Man United, it is really to accelerate because Cunha (signing) fantastic, Mbeumo (signing) fantastic, but also selling players is important, and so Marcus Rashford- solutions to find, Alejandro Garnacho- solutions to find, he wants to stay in the Premier League. Jadon Sancho- solutions to find. Antony- solutions to find. So many things to say and do for Manchester United.”
The Red Devils currently have Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as the two number nine options at the club. Both forwards have struggled to establish themselves as reliable contributors under Amorim, failing to make the spot their own.
Amorim’s success at Sporting CP involved the rise of Viktor Gyokeres as his preferred striker in the 3-4-2-1 formation. Gyokeres’ lethal goalscoring prowess played a pivotal role in Sporting CP’s revival and eventual rise to the top in Portugal.
Amorim wants a striker who could achieve the same success at United that Gyokeres achieved at Sporting Lisbon under him. Without that main striker, United’s trio, which includes Cunha and Mbeumo, is not complete. We All Follow United previously covered that the Red Devils are interested in Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, who suits Amorim’s profile perfectly.
