Manchester United near major exit; reach agreement in principle with Barcelona for academy graduate

Manchester United have had a very interesting summer transfer window so far, securing deals for Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon. The club has also all but closed an agreement for Bryan Mbeumo with Brentford and with so many arrivals, departures had to start taking centre-stage.

The Red Devils have a number of players in the current squad who are out of the scheme of things under Ruben Amorim. This was evident from last season and one such player is Marcus Rashford. The academy graduate was loaned out to Aston Villa in the second half of the season with the Portuguese tactician not counting on him.

Rashford has been at United since his boyhood days and has enjoyed many memorable moments at Old Trafford. He still remains a crowd favourite but his performances in recent seasons have left a lot to be desired. Thus, it comes as no surprise to see the club looking to move him on.

Manchester United reach agreement in principle with Barcelona

Now, as per reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have reached an agreement in principle with Barcelona for the exit of the 27-year-old English attacker. The Red Devils will see Rashford join the Catalan club on a loan deal with an option to buy.

Romano mentions that medicals are set to be held in the coming days and Man Utd will authorize his travel to Spain very soon. Although the Red Devils would have preferred to sell Rashford on a permanent basis this summer but that is not to be and they will have to settle for getting a part of his wages off the books.

Irrespective of what happens this season at Barcelona though, it does feel like Rashford has played his last game in a Barcelona jersey. He has represented the club 426 times for the club across all competitions, scoring 138 goals and providing 77 assists and he has been a great servant to the club.

United need Rashford to do well at Barcelona

Despite him leaving on loan, Man Utd will be hoping for Rashford to have an excellent stint in Catalunya, as that would allow them to move him on with a permanent sale next summer. His exit now also gives the Red Devils space on the wage bill to make further reinforcements.

It remains to be seen what the terms on this loan deal are with Barcelona and how much percentage of his wages Man Utd pay this season. The next few days should provide further details on this transfer and let’s wait and see how things play out.
