“Fantastic player”- Club legend backs new Man United signing to do well after high-profile switch to M16

All eyes will be on Matheus Cunha as he looks to start his Manchester United career on a positive note next season

A huge summer beckons for Manchester United as they look to bolster their squad for next season. The Red Devils are aiming to get things back on track after enduring a disastrous Premier League campaign last season. With Ruben Amorim aiming to make his mark at M16, INEOS must back the Portuguese tactician in the transfer market.

The pre-season is just around the corner for United, and the slow approach taken by the club’s hierarchy is a cause for concern amongst the fanbase. The Salford-based club has only managed to bring in one new player since the start the of the transfer window last month. After a dismal campaign last season, fans expected the Red Devils to be proactive in the summer.

Manchester United confirmed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves earlier last month. The Brazil international has proved his worth in the Premier League, and the Red Devils came out on top in the race to buy the versatile forward on a five-year deal. The fans are quite excited to see how the 26-year-old fares at M16 under Ruben Amorim next season.

Matheus Cunha is backed to succeed at Manchester United

Manchester United fans are excited to see how Matheus Cunha settles into the club following his switch from Wolves in the summer. The Brazil international will instantly become a regular starter under Ruben Amorim, filling in the number 10 role for the Red Devils. And fans will hope that the 26-year-old can make an impact at M16 during his time with the club as United look to compete for trophies again next season.

Club legend David May has also backed Cunha to do well at Old Trafford next season as he arrives with high hopes and expectations. Speaking on the Devils’ Advocate podcast (via BBC), May said,

“I really like the signings we have made so far. [Matheus] Cunha is a fantastic player. He is a Manchester United fan so he is already in love with the club. When Eric Cantona played for Man Utd, he changed the way we played.”

The ex-United player added,

“I’m not saying Cunha will do that, but he will bring that little edge, which Eric had as well. He can do things that other people can’t and hopefully Cunha can follow in Eric’s footsteps.”

David May believes Matheus Cunha is a ‘fantastic’ signing for Manchester United. The club legend points out that Cunha is a United fan and that will help him settle at M16. May then insists that the Brazil international will bring a little edge in the final third of the pitch, and hopes that he changes the fortunes of the Salford-based club just like Eric Cantona did all those years ago.

It remains to be seen how well the versatile forward does at United next season. Cunha can either play as a number ten, or as a striker under Ruben Amorim. The 26-year-old’s versatility is one of the major reasons why the Red Devils fought so hard to sign him. The ex-Wolves start also likes to take an odd shot whenever given an opportunity. And his link-up play with other attackers is second to none.

The only downfall in his game is his disciplinary issues. As per Sofascore, Cunha was on the receiving end of four yellow cards and one red card. He also received a two-match ban after being found guilty of misconduct earlier this year. Not only that, but the 26-year-old was involved in another incident with Milos Kerkez following the suspension, and received an additional four-match ban from the FA.
