Gary Neville believes that Manchester United need a minimum of six recruitments to help Ruben Amorim during the summer window. The Red Devils have experienced a terrible season, as they prepare to salvage something by winning the Europa League competition.
United will face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, with a chance to secure next season’s Champions League competition. Spurs have also endured a similar season to United as the two top clubs plummeted badly in the Premier League.
United are currently 16th in the Premier League table after losing 18 games from 37 matches so far this season. Similarly, Spurs are 17th in the Premier League as they have suffered problems in all areas of their senior team.

Amorim succeeded former United manager Erik ten Hag in the middle of the current season to change the club’s fortune. However, the Portuguese style of play proved too much to adjust to conveniently for the squad he inherited this season.
The former Sporting CP boss enjoyed great success in Liga Portugal, winning the competition thrice under the same tactical philosophy. Amorim intends to repeat a similar process of success, but the scrutiny at United is much higher with less time.
Speaking to The Athletic, Neville suggested that United need a minimum of six players in the summer to back Amorim. He said:
“He needs a proper pre-season with the team to embed this system and this style of play. We’ll know a lot more in October, November, December when I’m sure they’ll be winning more matches than they are now. It needs a big overhaul in the summer. Five or six players minimum to be able to change the direction of how he wants to play. There’s at least two forwards, a central midfield player, definitely two wing backs and another centre-back. They need six players minimum.”
United are facing a financial problem, which forces them to sell their surplus before they can recruit multiple first-team talents. At the same time, it is evident that United needs a proper squad overhaul to help Amorim in the summer.

The Red Devils’ frivolous spending in the past amounted to numerous failures and an unbalanced wage budget at the moment. At the same time, the valuation of many players they bought in the past has fallen due to individual inconsistencies. United need to act shrewdly this time and make sure they make impeccable signings on every front for Amorim.
