Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim believes that the club need to change a lot of things after the current season. United suffered another heavy loss at Old Trafford on Sunday as West Ham United secured a 0-2 Premier League victory.
The Red Devils have continued to suffer immensely in the Premier League, currently 16th in the table with 17 losses. Only one point separates them from 17th-placed Tottenham Hotspur as both teams prepare to clash in the Europa League final.
Nevertheless, the Red Devils’ current position is far beneath their stature as one of the best football clubs in England. Their current campaign involved a managerial transition as United sacked Erik ten Hag after an underwhelming start to the season.
However, Amorim’s appointment failed to inspire the current senior squad as they struggled under the new tactical style of play. United procured the majority of these players for an absurd amount, making their inability to adjust more embarrassing and scrutinising.
Speaking in the post-match press conference (via Manutd.com), Amorim highlighted that United need to change a lot of things after this season. He said:
“I think… Are we supposed to feel a manager of Manchester United in that position, embarrassed, and it’s hard to accept. And I think everybody has to think seriously about a lot of things here. Everybody is thinking about the final, the final is not the issue in this moment in our club, we have bigger, bigger things to think [about]. And we have to change a lot of things in the end of the season.”
While the fanbase expects a massive squad overhaul from the Red Devils to back Amorim, there are financial problems involved. The Red Devils’ past frivolous spending is haunting them, as there are many surplus players currently under massive contracts.
These players also include on-loan stars like Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony, who are not part of Amorim’s plan. United have to sell the majority of these players before they can recruit the ones who suit Amorim’s desired profile.

Nevertheless, United have no room for any error or excuses when the next summer transfer windows shut and the new season commences. United’s arch-rivals, Liverpool’s Premier League victory, is another painful event that the fans had to endure this season. The Red Devils cannot afford to let the gap between themselves and the current Premier League champions remain this far.
