Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim contemplates leaving the club if he fails to turn things around in the Premier League. The Red Devils suffered a 0-2 loss to West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday, continuing their miserable form.
United are currently 16th in the Premier League, one point ahead of 17th-place Tottenham Hotspur, their Europa League final opponent. The Red Devils have endured a horrible campaign, losing 17 games from 36 Premier League matches so far this season.
The poor start to their season forced the club to sack former manager Erik ten Hag and appoint Amorim immediately. However, Amorim’s tactical style of play failed to bring the best out of the squad he inherited from Ten Hag.
Nevertheless, United have maintained their focus in the Europa League, making it to the final at the Premier League’s expense. The club of United’s stature should not be where they are in the Premier League, irrespective of the recent transition.
During the post-match press conference (via Daily Mail), Amorim accepted full responsibility for the current predicament of United this season. He said:
“It’s not the players fault. It’s my fault, I’m responsible. If we cannot change that really fast we should give our place to different persons.”
The Red Devils’ 0-2 Old Trafford loss to West Ham highlighted the club’s vulnerability in all phases of the game. Amorim has also received justified scrutiny for making short-term tactical changes to help the players he possesses at the club.
To make things worse, Liverpool equalled the Red Devils with their 20th League title victory this season. Man United’s historical arch-rivals are 44 points ahead of them, which is a grim statistic for one of the best clubs in England.
