Man United holds a meeting with £56m forward despite preferring Gyokeres

Manchester United are talking to Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen, but Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres remains their priority summer target. The Red Devils have made a shortlist of forwards as the potential targets for the summer window under Ruben Amorim.

Man United have endured a poor campaign, currently 15th in the Premier League after suffering 16 losses from 35 games. Their terrible start cost Erik ten Hag his job, and Amorim immediately succeeded the Dutchman as the new United manager.

However, Amorim’s vastly different tactical style of play failed to make immediate rectifications at the club due to the players. The squad he inherited could not adjust to his tactical demands, and losses continued to hurt their momentum this season.

United have an opportunity to salvage something and qualify for the next season’s Champions League through the Europa League victory. The potential triumph would help them attract top talent who would suit Amorim’s style better than what he currently possesses.

The central forward position is the priority for the Red Devils, as both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have struggled. Both Zirkzee and Hojlund have struggled with limited contributions in front of the goal and inconsistencies, costing the club opportunities.

According to football journalist Santi Aouna (via X), United have held a conversation with Galatasaray forward Osimhen, but Sporting CP’s Gyokeres remains their primary target. The Red Devils have a shortlist of strikers that includes Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap and several other European forwards.

Gyokeres played a pivotal role in Amorim’s success at Sporting CP before his move to United this season. The 26-year-old completely understands the demands, but his €70 million (£59m) is a big hindrance given United’s financial conditions.

Meanwhile, Osimhen has continued to prove his proficiency during his loan spell at Galatasaray, intending to leave Napoli this summer. Galatasaray have put together a £56m package, which is enough to permanently sign the Nigerian international. United could opt for Osimhen, given his price tag and his proven record in Serie A, which is a significantly stronger league than Liga Portugal, where Gyokeres is currently operating.
