Bruno Fernandes delivered a sensational performance for Manchester United against Athletic Club amid a 0-3 win in the Europa League semifinals’ first leg. Man United secured the away victory at Estadio de San Mames against the Spanish club, currently fourth in La Liga.
The Red Devils dominated most of the game and scored in the 30th minute, courtesy of their veteran midfielder, Casemiro. The match referee awarded United a penalty in the 32nd minute, which also resulted in Athletic’s Daniel Vivian’s red card.
Fernandes converted the penalty and then scored another goal right before halftime to secure a three-goal away lead for United. The 30-year-old has played a pivotal role for the Red Devils despite their disastrous campaign in the Premier League competition.

United are currently 14th in the Premier League table, after enduring 15 losses from 34 games so far this season. However, a potential Europa League victory remains their source of salvation and a path to the next season’s Champions League.
According to Fotmob, Fernandes was the Player of the Match for United with a rating of 9.3, creating the most chances (three) against Athletic. The Portugal international made 80% accurate passes from 59 attempts, enjoying 81 touches with five touches inside the opposition box.
Fernandes also made 12 passes in the final third with 67% crossing accuracy and 75% long ball accuracy against Athletic. The stats highlight the United captain’s dominance in the build-up play in possession for the Red Devils throughout the game.
Defensively, Fernandes won 50% of his tackles, made two clearances and two more through the headers during the away game. The 30-year-old also completed four defensive actions and made six recoveries, highlighting his desire to work hard for his teammates.
