Serie A giants to demand €75 million for long-term Manchester United target

Atalanta are seeking €75 million for Manchester United target Ederson

A major rebuild is on the horizon at Manchester United this summer, with new manager Rúben Amorim preparing for his first transfer window at the helm. Following yet another underwhelming season, the club is reportedly ready to spend big as they look to reshape both their defence and attack. One of the key names on their radar is Atalanta’s midfield powerhouse, Ederson.

The Brazilian international has been in impressive form for the Serie A side, catching the eye with his energy, ball-winning ability, and drive from midfield, traits that align well with Amorim’s high-intensity, press-focused system. However, United may face a financial obstacle in their pursuit. Reports from Italy now suggest that Atalanta have significantly raised their asking price for the 24-year-old, demanding €75 million, far more than what the Premier League giants initially anticipated.

Atalanta are seeking €75 million for Manchester United target Ederson.

Spanish journalist Eduardo Burgos of Diario AS via X has reported that Atalanta have officially raised their asking price for midfield standout Ederson, amid growing interest from several top European clubs. Following a stellar campaign in Serie A, the 25-year-old Brazilian has caught the attention of major sides across the continent.

According to Burgos, both Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid are monitoring Ederson closely, while Juventus, Manchester City, and Manchester United are also tracking his situation with increasing intent. In response to this spike in interest, Atalanta have now placed a €75 million valuation on the midfielder, a figure that could present a significant challenge for Manchester United, especially given their limited financial flexibility this summer under new boss Rúben Amorim.

However, Burgos also notes that Ederson is widely expected to leave Italy at the end of the season, and crucially, that the price is “negotiable.” This opens the door for United or any of his other suitors to strike a more favourable deal, should Atalanta soften their stance during talks.

Ederson is bound for a bigger club

At just 25 years old, Ederson has already established himself as one of the most sought-after midfielders in Italian football. Since arriving from Brazil, the Brazilian international has racked up 135 appearances for Atalanta, consistently proving his value with tenacious performances, tactical discipline, and a growing influence in both defence and transition. His rise has now made him a top target for several European giants, including Manchester United.

For United, the timing of Ederson’s availability aligns perfectly with their pressing need for midfield reinforcements. Newly appointed manager Rúben Amorim is overseeing a major squad restructuring after a dismal season at Old Trafford, andthe midfield is one of the key areas in need of strengthening.

Christian Eriksen is set to depart when his contract expires, and the United hierarchy are reportedly eager to offload Casemiro, despite the Brazilian enjoying a short-lived resurgence under Amorim. Even Kobbie Mainoo, widely viewed as one of United’s brightest prospects, doesn’t fully convince Amorim as a long-term solution in a midfield pivot within his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation. Meanwhile, captain Bruno Fernandes continues to be shuffled between midfield and the forward line, hindering his ability to settle into a consistent role.

In contrast, Ederson has already thrived in systems similar to Amorim’s, and his dynamic style of play, marked by high work rate, ball progression, and positional intelligence, makes him an ideal fit. He could bring the much-needed balance, energy, and structure United have sorely lacked in their midfield engine.

Ederson’s influence at Atalanta this season has been undeniable. Operating as a dynamic box-to-box midfielder, the Brazilian has become the heartbeat of La Dea’s engine room, blending tireless work rate with sharp technical ability and intelligent positional play. His relentless energy and ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch have been central to Atalanta’s impressive campaign, making him one of the most in-demand midfielders in Europe.

With United desperate for midfield reinforcements and Rúben Amorim keen to implement his high-energy 3-4-2-1 system, Ederson’s profile aligns perfectly with the club’s current needs. He wouldn’t just fill a gap, he’d set the tone for a new era of intensity and tactical structure at Old Trafford.
