“Wants to play for Man United”- Ruben Amorim address Manchester United interest in Matheus Cunha

Ruben Amorim remained coy when questioned about Manchester United’s interest in Wolves forward Matheus Cunha

The forthcoming summer transfer window is set to be an extremely crucial one for Manchester United.

The arrival of Ruben Amorim after taking Sporting CP to great heights in recent years was expected to improve the side’s performance, however, things have not worked so far for the Portuguese boss. As such, there have been some speculations about his future at the club, however, INEOS believe Ruben Amorim is the right man for the Red Devils.

The co-owners are keen to back him in the transfer market, with Manchester United having already started dialogue for one of the major summer targets.

The Premier League giants are ready to pay the £62.5million release clause attached to Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha’s contract and are confident of getting a deal over the line early in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old has been one of the breakout stars of the season with 15 goals and six assists in the Premier League despite Wolves’ largely poor form throughout the current campaign. Moreover, his form has been a critical reason for the Wanderers’ resurgence in the top-flight under Vitor Pereira, with the forward netting in the 3-0 win over Midlands rivals Leicester City on Saturday.

When asked about Man United’s interest in Matheus Cunha, Amorim remained coy in his pre-match press conference on Saturday ahead of the trip to Bournemouth. He refused to be drawn on the Wolves star when questioned about his club’s interest.

“I will not say anything about Matheus, because if I say one time I will have to say for any situation that is yes or no,” Amorim was quoted by the Daily Mail.

“So, I will not comment about that. It’s hard to predict what is going to happen in the future.”

Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap and FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa have emerged as targets in recent weeks and months, and Amorim feels United’s struggles this season will not prevent new signings from joining his forces at Old Trafford.

“It’s Manchester United,” he added. “What I feel is that there’s a lot of players that want to play for our club.

“I know that if you look at our club in the moment – with all the problems with the staff, people going, changing coach, the results – it looks like a little bit of a problem. But we have a clear idea.

“That is the easiest part to explain to a player. And then it’s Manchester United. Everybody wants to play for Manchester United.”

Cunha would be a sensational signing for United if it happens. INEOS remain confident of getting a deal over the line, and the Brazilian also wants to be a part of the exciting project under Amorim.

The Portuguese manager is desperate to add more goals to his team’s attack this summer after a paltry total of only 38 goals in the Premier League thus far. And with fellow strugglers Tottenham Hotspur even managing 61, it is no surprise to see INEOS have set their sights on Cunha. In addition to the Wolves ace, Ipswich’s Liam Delap is also being targeted following his breakout Premier League season in which he has bagged 12 goals in 33 appearances.
