Manchester United make contact with the entourage of Joan Garcia
Manchester United have been left with plenty of problems to fix following a shambolic Premier League campaign. There are glaring issues across various areas of the pitch that must be addressed in the upcoming summer transfer window — and one of the most pressing concerns is finding a replacement for Andre Onana. The Cameroonian goalkeeper has faced heavy criticism for his dismal performances, with a string of costly errors throughout the season that have severely hurt United’s chances. It’s clear that the club must look for a more reliable option between the posts.
Compounding the situation, Tom Heaton will also depart at the end of the season once his contract expires. As United prepare for a goalkeeping overhaul, COPE reports that the Red Devils are closing in on a move for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia in the transfer window.
A player with immense potential

Manchester United have already made contact with Joan Garcia’s representatives this past Sunday. The 23-year-old Spanish goalkeeper currently has a release clause of €25 million (£21.3 million). However, that clause will rise to €30 million (£25.6 million) during the final 15 days of the transfer window, and could increase by a further €5 million (£4.2 million) if Garcia makes his debut for the Spanish national team.
Garcia has conceded 39 goals and kept seven clean sheets in 32 La Liga appearances during the 2024/25 season. That equates to his team conceding a goal every 74 minutes when he is in goal. Garcia’s goals conceded per 90 minutes stand at 1.22. Impressively, he has saved 121 of the 162 shots he has faced, giving him a strong save percentage of 74.69%.

Espanyol’s talented 23-year-old goalkeeper possesses all the qualities top clubs seek, quick reflexes, calmness under pressure, and excellent distribution with the ball at his feet. He is dominant in the air, confident coming off his line, and displays the athleticism and sharp decision-making of a modern, top-level keeper. Manchester United should seize the opportunity to sign Joan Garcia for €25 million.
His shot-stopping ability, composure, and long-term potential make him a smart upgrade over the inconsistent Andre Onana. The fee represents a real bargain, but United must act quickly before his price rises or a rival like Arsenal steps in to hijack the deal.
