Marcus Rashford is not a part of Ruben Amorim’s long-term plans at Manchester United
Marcus Rashford is enjoying his stint at Aston Villa after joining on loan from Manchester United during the winter transfer window.
The 27-year-old was banished by Ruben Amorim from the first team in December, then, aside from the limp 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle United on December 30 when he was an unused substitute, did not pick him in his matchday squad again.
Knowing he fell out of favour under the Portuguese tactician, Marcus Rashford decided to join Unai Emery’s side on loan for the rest of the season. And he has managed to rebuild his reputation away from Manchester with four goals and six assists in 17 appearances, including a penalty in Aston Villa’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening.

While he did miss a couple of chances, which eventually cost the Villans three points, the forward’s performance while leading the attack was still considered positive. Following the loss to Man City, Villa remained seventh in the Premier League table and two points adrift of Champions League spots.
According to a report from BBC, Rashford feels unlikely to play for his boyhood club Manchester United again under Ruben Amorim. But, he is yet to make a concrete decision on his future. Villa retain a £40m option to buy, but would still need to agree terms with Rashford, who is expected to take his time before picking his next club.
The England international would still need to agree to personal terms with the Villans. His eye-watering £350k-a-week wages could prove a stumbling block, so the versatile attacker will need to take a pay cut to become a permanent member of Unai Emery’s squad.
Rashford still has three years left on his contract at Old Trafford, which means the Red Devils will have to decide whether to sell the 27-year-old or find another temporary home if Villa decides against triggering the buy option.

The aforementioned report adds that Rashford ideally wants to join a club with Champions League football. He has an excellent relationship with Emery, but Villa’s bid for qualification could define whether he chooses to stay at Villa Park and if they are willing and able to move forward.
The Wythenshawe-born star is likely to delay a decision on his future until at least mid-June in order to speak to all prospective suitors. As per a separate report from Spanish outlet Sport, Rashford, who missed out on a winter move to Barcelona, wants to join the La Liga league leaders “no matter what” and that his entourage have made it clear that a move to Hansi Flick’s side would be prioritised ahead of other clubs.

It appears clear that Rashford is not a part of Amorim’s long-term plans at United. INEOS must sell him in order to strengthen the club’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) position and fund Amorim’s summer transfer business, with Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha emerging as a key target.
