Manchester United eye summer move for 24G/A Premier League star

Manchester United are interested in signing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo to address their goalscoring woes

Manchester United have endured a challenging Premier League campaign, marred by inconsistency, injury problems and defensive vulnerabilities.

The 20-time English champions are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table and were beaten 1-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers at home last weekend, failing to build on the epic 5-4 comeback win over Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals’ second leg.

The upcoming summer transfer window will be vital for head coach Ruben Amorim and INEOS to decisively rebuild the squad and restore some stability at the club. Improving the Red Devils’ scoring record is a priority for Ruben Amorim. Only Southampton, Leicester City, Ipswich, Everton and West Ham have scored fewer than the 38 goals Manchester United have managed in 33 Premier League matches this season.

Amorim has struggled to get a consistent supply of goals from his two strikers, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee. Bruno Fernandes is the club’s top scorer in the league with eight strikes, which paints the entire picture of Man United’s struggles in front of goal this term. Addressing this glaring issue has to be INEOS’ top priority this summer, and it looks like they are on the right path with regards to their transfer plans.

Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has emerged as a target for Manchester United

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Manchester United are admirers of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo and want him to bring him to Old Trafford. The Bees are braced for approaches for their star attacker, who could be available for the right price this summer.

Bryan Mbeumo has been superb for Brentford this season, scoring 18 goals and providing six assists in 33 league appearances. The Cameroonian international has been the club’s main man in attack following Ivan Toney’s departure to the cash-rich Saudi Pro League last summer. He is enjoying a career-best campaign and ranks joint-fourth among the league’s top scorers, with only Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland ahead of him.

The aforementioned report adds that Thomas Frank’s club are ‘going to struggle’ to keep hold of Mbeumo this summer and could entertain offers in the region of £50 to £55m for him. Come summer, the African star will have just 12 months remaining on his contract (Transfermarkt) at Gtech Community Stadium, even though the club hold an option to extend the 25-year-old’s stay for another year.

United are set to face competition from a number of Premier League clubs for the France-born Cameroonian, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle all known to be admirers of his talent.

Mbeumo can operate on the right flank, lead the attack or play as a secondary striker, as evidenced during his tenure at Brentford, and such versatility would make him an ideal addition to Amorim’s club. With the Red Devils desperately in need of a clinical and dynamic presence up front, Mbeumo appears to be exactly the kind of forward Amorim is looking to bring into his project at Old Trafford.
