Manchester United bracing for summer loan offers for breakout talent

Manchester United could decide to loan out Harry Amass during the summer transfer window

After their Europa League high of beating Lyon in the quarter-finals, Manchester United came crashing back to earth on Sunday following a 1-0 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

Ruben Amorim decided to rotate his squad after the exertion of his key players in the midweek fixture that went into extra-time, handing a couple of the club’s academy kids an opportunity. The only silver lining amid another underwhelming display was the performance of academy youngster Tyler Fredricson, who made his senior bow, and Harry Amass, who enjoyed back-to-back Premier League starts.

Harry Amass was impressive as the left wing-back in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 setup, dovetailing and linking up well with Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. Considering the teenager and Fredricson’s displays, Amorim stated that both the academy graduates “deserved better” as they both “played really well” during the disappointing 1-0 defeat.

After doing well across three Premier League appearances, Amass could be set for a temporary exit when the transfer window reopens in June. According to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, the 18-year-old is set to be subject to many loan offers from Championship clubs for next season.

Recently relegated Premier League club Leicester City are said to be very keen on winning the race for the attacking left-back. However, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s club will face stiff competition after he put in promising displays against both Newcastle United and Wolves in back-to-back weekends.

Amorim has been satisfied with the progress Amass has made after he initially took some time to adapt to his methods and system, but remains unsure how often he would want to use him at the primitive stages of his career. This could open the door for a temporary exit.

The aforementioned report adds that Amass could remain at Old Trafford next season as the club chiefs intend to include him in the pre-season tour. They want to have one regular starter and an adequate backup for each position on the pitch. So, the England Under-18 international’s suitors may be forced to play the waiting game to secure his signature.

Given Luke Shaw’s injury record and him on course to enter the final two years of his contract, Amass certainly has the talent to stay and compete with Patrick Dorgu for the left wing-back spot. As Shaw has lost a yard of pace or two because of frequent injury problems in recent seasons, the England international would be best suited as the left-sided centre-back in Amorim’s system.

Not to forget, Diego Leon is set to arrive at Manchester from Cerro Porteno in July. The Paraguayan is set to be included in the first team’s pre-season squad, but at just 18 and coming from a different league, INEOS would be wise to loan him out instead and keep Amass as Dorgu’s deputy. For now, we expect both Amass and Leon to be included in Amorim’s first pre-season as United boss.
