David Ornstein: Amorim wants Manchester Utd to break record for Premier League star

Bournemouth demand record fee as Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim eyes Antoine Semenyo

Ruben Amorim’s first season at Old Trafford hasn’t gone according to plan, but it’s far too early to judge the Portuguese manager. Manchester United will undergo a big summer rebuild, with a number of players likely to leave, and the club will look to spend big in the transfer market. According to reports from David Ornstein, United have been strongly linked with Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, and United labelled as “very fond” of the Ghanaian international. Amorim, in particular, is believed to hold him in high regard after an impressive season at the Vitality Stadium last term.

Antoine Semenyo has thrived under Andoni Iraola this season, attracting attention from several Premier League clubs in recent months. Bournemouth are fully aware of the increasing interest in the 25-year-old forward and is only willing to consider his departure for a club-record fee. That figure would need to exceed the £65 million they received from Tottenham for Dominic Solanke last summer. Speaking on NBC Sports, David Ornstein confirmed that both Manchester United and manager Ruben Amorim admire Semenyo, with the Cherries valuing him at over £65 million.

Ornstein, speaking to NBC Sports, expressed that United are big admirers of the Bournemouth star

“Then there’s Antoine Semenyo, what a season he has had, and a player that Manchester United, their manager, Ruben Amorim, is very fond of.”

“Now they [Bournemouth] would be looking to sell him for a fee in excess of what they got for Dominic Solanke, which was £65m, because there’s no release clause, they would want a club record.”

Antoine Semenyo, who arrived at Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023, has made a strong impact in his second season, netting 10 goals and delivering six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. The 24-year-old forward, often hailed as “deadly,” signed a new five-year contract with the Cherries last summer, keeping him at the club until June 2029.
