“I see it”- Ruben Amorim Manchester United golden boy’s path to glory

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim keen for Kobbie Mainoo to fulfill his potential

Manchester United’s turbulent season in the Premier League has continued despite a managerial change midway through the campaign. The dismissal of Erik ten Hag and the appointment of Ruben Amorim from Sporting CP was intended to steady the ship, but the Red Devils remain stranded in the lower half of the table, plagued by inconsistent performances and underwhelming results.

One of the few bright sparks, however, has been 19-year-old midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. The youngster has earned widespread praise for his composure, vision, and maturity beyond his years. Yet, while his potential is undeniable, Mainoo remains a developing talent still finding his feet at the top level.

Ruben Amorim opens up on Kobbie Mainoo

According to The Metro, Amorim has spoken candidly about Kobbie Mainoo’s potential and the areas in which the young midfielder still needs to grow. While full of praise for the 19-year-old, Amorim made it clear that there is still a journey ahead before Mainoo can be considered a complete player.

Amorim highlighted Mainoo’s natural talent and composure, particularly when operating near the opposition’s box, where his technical ability and close control shine. However, the manager also pointed out that Mainoo needs to improve the tempo of his play and his involvement in the build-up phase. His current level, Amorim noted, still reflects that of a developing player—not yet ready to shoulder consistent responsibility on his own.

Rather than rush his progress, Amorim has made it a point to protect and nurture Mainoo’s talent carefully. His approach underlines a commitment to long-term development, ensuring the midfielder grows steadily without being weighed down by the pressure of United’s current struggles.

“When I see Kobbie, I see a lot of talent. But the way I see it – and I could be wrong – but I see some things that Kobbie has to improve. His pace in the game. He needs to improve in the build-up. Near the box, he has a lot of talent and that is why I think he did a really good game in the Europa League in that position. But I don’t see a full player at the moment; he is 19. If I say I have seen the final player, I don’t think I am helping Kobbie.”

Mainoo’s emergence has come at a time when Manchester United are in desperate need of fresh energy and identity, and his performances have offered a glimpse of what the future could hold. Despite the club’s chaotic season, Mainoo has shown maturity and resilience, often stepping up in high-pressure situations beyond his years.

United’s coaching staff must work closely with the teenager to improve his physicality, positional awareness, and decision-making under pressure, all vital components in adapting to the demands of the Premier League. With experienced midfielders like Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes around him, Mainoo is in the right environment to learn and grow without being rushed into becoming the main man.

Patience will be key. While the temptation to fast-track him into a central role is strong, Amorim’s careful approach could be exactly what Mainoo needs to fulfil his vast potential. If nurtured properly, the 19-year-old could become a pillar of Manchester United’s midfield for years to come, a homegrown talent rising through the chaos to help shape a new era at Old Trafford.
