Manchester United earmark Bundesliga talent to repalce Antony at Old Trafford

Manchester United consider Jamie Gittens to replace Antony

Manchester United are going through a terrible season in the Premier League, where they are languishing at the bottom of the points table. It is quite clear that the club will be letting go of and selling many players in the upcoming summer transfer window to facilitate the way for new players into the squad. The club need to strengthen their multiple sports in the team in order to compete better next season.

Antony was one of the signings who never clicked at United. The Brazilian showed a display of his skills and talent at Ajax Amsterdam, which lured United into signing him. However, he did not have that impact in the Red Devils’ jersey and was loaned to Real Betis in the winter transfer window till the end of the season. The Brazilian has settled quickly in La Liga and has become a fan favorite at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.

Manchester United want to replace Antony with Jamie Gittens

A report from the Spanish outlet Fichajes claims that Manchester United have received an offer of £64 million with add-ons from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in order to sign Antony. The La Liga club’s proposal is €45 million (£38m) fixed, with a further €30 million (£26m) in variables. This will be a hugely profitable deal for the Red Devils if it is successful and they can sign a player using that money who will fit Ruben Amorim’s system.

The same report has stated that Ruben Amorim’s side wants to use that money to buy Antony’s replacement. They are targeting Jamie Gittens of Borussia Dortmund. The 20-year-old winger has shown his talent while playing in the Bundesliga. His market value is estimated to be €75 million.

Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is a gem, pacey, tricky, and fearless on the ball. The 20-year-old Dortmund winger has got a knack for beating defenders one-on-one, cutting inside with that wicked right foot, and delivering in clutch moments. Hopefully, he will turn out to enjoy better success than Antony at Old Trafford.

For Manchester United, Gittens would be a breath of fresh air. Their attack has been stale, and with Rashford and Garnacho’s futures shaky, Jamie’s energy could spark something special. Under Amorim’s high-pressing system, his dynamism and flair might just turn Old Trafford into a fortress again.

Gittens has scored eight goals in 28 matches so far in the Bundesliga 2024/2025 season. Overall, his goals scored per 90 minutes is 0.44. Moreover, Gittens’s total G/A (goals + assists) is 11 for this season. His goal involvement equates to 0.6 per 90 minutes, and his non-penalty xG per 90 minutes is 0.40. It remains to be seen if Manchester United are successful in signing him.
