Manchester United set to part ways with veteran star next summer

Christian Eriksen looks likely to leave Manchester United in the summer

Manchester United’s dismal season has left fans restless and demanding change. With a major summer shake-up on the horizon, the club’s hierarchy understands they can’t afford to carry on with the same tired legs and fading hunger.

Several players, some with big reputations, are expected to be shown the door after years of underwhelming performances. The mission is clear: clear the deadwood, free up funds, and inject the squad with fresh talent and renewed drive. It’s set to be a bold reset, and if executed well, it could spark a long-overdue revival at Old Trafford. For now, fans wait—hopeful, but cautious.

Manchester United will offer no new deal to Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen’s time at Manchester United appears to be nearing its end, with rumours of a summer exit growing louder. Manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly given the green light for the 33-year-old to move on once his contract runs its course, signalling the end of his chapter at Old Trafford.

No new contract offers are on the table, and Manchester United seem ready to part ways with Christian Eriksen. Former United scout Mick Brown believes a return to Ajax could be the perfect move for the Danish playmaker. Speaking to Football Insider, Brown noted that Eriksen’s style suits Dutch football perfectly, more measured, less frantic, and right in his comfort zone. While several clubs are expected to show interest, Ajax feels like home for the experienced midfielder.

Here is what Brown said to Football Insider about the Danish international:

“There are no talks planned about a new contract, and Amorim has agreed to his exit, so he’ll be assessing his options now. I don’t think there will be a shortage of interest, but one that stands out is Ajax. He’s very well-suited to Dutch football, it would allow him to play at a less intense pace.”

The midfielder has assisted 1 goal in 17 matches so far in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. The Danish international passes the ball roughly 52.20 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 85.43%. He also plays 1.96 key passes each game. Overall, Eriksen’s xA (expected assists) output is 0.24 per 90 minutes.

Eriksen’s spark has undeniably faded. He’s struggled to keep pace with the Premier League’s relentless tempo, and a move to the Eredivisie could be the smartest next step. With less intensity and more room to express himself, the 32-year-old could extend his career in a league that plays to his strengths.

Despite flashes of brilliance, the £150,000-a-week midfielder no longer fits the direction Manchester United must take. The club desperately needs a younger, more dynamic creative force to drive the attack and break down defences. After such a forgettable campaign, this summer is all about reloading with quality—because if United want to return to trophy hunts and Champions League nights, evolution is no longer optional.
