Manchester United are hoping to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig
Manchester United are having a tough campaign. The Red Devils sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table and are not also out of all domestic competitions. However, the English club is still in the fight for the Europa League title and that is the only route for the club to secure a Champions League spot for next season.
There have been many question marks over the the quality of the squad Ruben Amorim has had to work with. The club have several players who are deemed to be surplus to requirements and are just not good enough if United want to challenge for titles. Ever since the takeover of the club, INEOS have been asked to sell all the deadweight and instead buy new players who are yet to reach their potential.
This is exactly what the club’s hierarchy has been trying to do. INEOS has made it a point to sign young players who will be developed at Manchester United, instead of old and already established players who are in the twilight of their careers. Last summer’s signings already proved that the club’s hierarchy was aiming to build a young squad for the future, rather than focusing on immediate success.
Xavi Simons the latest to join Manchester United?
Manchester United are said to be in the market for an attacking midfielder that will suit Ruben Amorim’s system. The Red Devils are looking for players who can fill out the No.10 spot in the team and are more naturally suitable for that role. They already have Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount vying for those positions, but the latter has just failed to make an impact at the club ever since his arrival from Chelsea.
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United are said to be in the market for RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons. It is also reported that the Netherlands international has been on the radar of the English club for quite some time now and Leipzig will be looking to demand €80million for the midfielder.
Simons joined RB Leipzig on a permanent deal from PSG in January for €50million. However, the Dutch star was already playing for the German club prior to that on loan for the last 18 months. Leipzig are now looking to offload the 21-year-old for a profit in the summer.
Will it be a good deal for Manchester United?
Manchester United signing Xavi Simons will surely be considered as a smart signing. The Netherlands international has already gained a lot of experience playing for big clubs, despite being only 21-years-old. The RB Leipzig star can also play in various positions and is quite flexible in his style of play.
As per Sofascore, Xavi Simons has scored eight goals and provided six assists in just 25 games this season. That is already much better than what Mason Mount has done in his entire United career. Simons will bring a flair to the attack and the talented player has a tendency to press and counter-press throughout the game.

Ruben Amorim prefers to play with two attacking midfielders behind the striker. One of those attacking midfielder positions will be taken by Bruno Fernandes, but the other is a perfect fit for Simons. His ability to create chances, carry the ball into the box and finishing is second to none and will be a good addition to the attacking depth.
