Chelsea ready to offer £79 million for Manchester United talent

We are already in the last few months of the 2024/25 season, and teams are bracing up with plans for the transfer window in the summer.

Manchester United will definitely want to have some signings made, given that they want to make good progress in the next season. However, they are certain to lose a few players as well in the market to balance the books.

Chelsea want to sign Kobbie Mainoo

Spanish news outlet Fichajes has reported that Chelsea are getting ready to come up with an offer of £79 million to sign Kobbie Mainoo in the upcoming summer transfer window.

There have been discussions about a possible sale of the 19-year-old and due to the financial constraints of the club, United might be looking to sell him to make a big profit at the end of the season.

He, along with another academy prospect, Alejandro Garnacho, are the two young players who might be on their way out of the club in the summer.

However, there have been other reports stating that United don’t want to lose their 19-year-old and have also offered him a new deal.

Mainoo wants a huge salary in his new deal, and United are not ready to offer this amount, as that will be a huge raise from the £20,000-a-week he is currently getting. So, he and his entourage have rejected all the offers from United.

Will the Red Devils need to sell him?

So, if Mainoo does not accept or agree to a new deal, the club will be looking to sell him for a big profit in the summer, and that is where Chelsea come into the scene. The Blues are interested in more young players, especially a midfielder, after they have noticed no improvements with Romeo Lavia.

Mainoo possesses the composure and is also technically adept. He is press-resistant and moves past defenders with ease in tight spaces. The 19-year-old is perfect with passes, and that helps him to break tight lines of defence.

Mainoo also puts in the defensive shift to break up the tempo of the game and the attacks from the opposition. The 19-year-old is calm under pressure and performs excellently well in a deep-lying or box-to-box role. All these qualities and his age make him a promising prospect for Chelsea.

Mainoo has played 18 matches in the Premier League 2024/25 season so far and has an xG of 0.5. United won’t want to lose such a promising young player.

However, all of this will depend on whether Mainoo agrees to a new deal. If he doesn’t, then the Red Devils won’t have any option other than selling him for a profit and accepting the offer from Chelsea.
