Manchester United has been looking to keep hold of Harry Maguire for another year as Ruben Amorim’s side looks to trigger the one-year contract extension option in the England international’s contract at Old Trafford, per Football Insider.
The former Leicester City centre-back’s contract at the club will come to its conclusion at the end of the ongoing 2024/25 season, with the England international confirming that he has already held “really positive” talks about his future.
Maguire will be eligible to sign pre-agreements with foreign clubs (non-English clubs) after the turn of the year; however, Manchester Reds are keen to avoid that and rather keep hold of the player beyond the end of the current campaign.
Moreover, activating his new contract will prevent his value in case the Premier League heavyweights look to sell his services.

Maguire was an outcast under Erik ten Hag, and everything pointed to an eventual exit; however, he has rejuvenated his career at Old Trafford since Ruben Amorim took charge at Carrington, and the former Foxes CB has featured in each of the last five Premier League games after recovering from a recent muscle injury.
Maguire suits the back three system that Amorim deploys at United, and he could go on to become an integral presence at the club in the coming seasons. His antics at Leicester City, playing in the middle of a three-man defence, earned him a move to Old Trafford, and we saw a glimpse of how good he can become at the back in United’s win against Manchester City, where he contained Haaland in what was one of the best performances he has had in a while.
