Manchester United star running out of time following Tottenham showing; January exit mooted

Manchester United’s Carabao Cup journey ended in heartbreak on Thursday, as they suffered a 4-3 quarter-final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Ruben Amorim’s decision to make too many changes backfired, with backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir committing two costly errors that ultimately decided the tie.

The Turkish goalkeeper, making his first start under Amorim, would have hoped for a stronger performance to leave a better impression.

Bayindir’s poor clearance led to Tottenham’s opening goal, while his weak attempt to challenge for their winner left much to be desired. Though Spurs’ fourth goal came with some controversy, these mistakes highlighted a disappointing performance.

With André Onana also under scrutiny for recent errors, Bayindir had a golden opportunity to stake his claim for the starting spot. Unfortunately, he fell short of expectations.

While Ruben Amorim refrained from publicly criticising his goalkeeper, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed to GIVEMESPORT that Amorim has decided to list the Turkish international for sale in January.

Amorim plans January exit for Bayindir after disappointing performances

With André Onana also making several errors recently, Altay Bayindir had the opportunity to assert himself as the starting goalkeeper but failed to impress. Despite Amorim’s decision not to blame his goalkeeper, Fabrizio Romano has now reported on GIVEMESPORT that Amorim plans to put the Turkish international up for sale in January.

Manchester United are open to selling Bayindir if they receive a substantial offer. Romano highlighted that “Bayindir could leave if Man United receive an important proposal for the Turkish goalkeeper,” emphasising the ruthless nature of Amorim. Bayindir has been linked with moves to Hull City, Celtic, and clubs in Turkey, and it seems his time at Old Trafford is coming to a disappointing end.

With a current market value of €10 million, according to Transfermarkt, INEOS will likely look to make the most from his sale in the winter. Amorim has expressed dissatisfaction with the club’s goalkeeping options and wants more competition for Onana. Should Bayindir depart, Manchester United may target Leeds United’s Illan Meslier. While Tom Heaton remains at the club, Amorim clearly isn’t convinced by him either, making it likely that the club will seek new backup options.
