Manchester United earmark three names to address injury hit first XI spot in January

United have marked three potential left-backs to target in the winter transfer window as a cover-up for Luke Shaw

After spending a heavy amount of £205.9m in the recently closed summer transfer window, Manchester United stood as the second highest spenders of the English Premier League in the summer of 2024, behind Chelsea who led the way by spending £219.6m from their money vault.

However, despite spending such a big amount of money, Erik Ten Hag is reportedly still in pursuit of a new regular left-back due to the ongoing injury issues of Luke Shaw and Tyrel Malacia.

United shortlists left-backs for the winter transfer window

As per a report by GIVEMESPORT, United have shortlisted Fulham star Antonee Robinson, French club Brest’s Bradley Locko, and Bournemouth baller Milos Kerkez in their priority signing of the winter transfer window.

It is worth noting that Luke Shaw’s constant injury concerns are the main orchestrator behind the club’s decision to look out for another full-time left-back as it is now becoming a big issue with the club’s ongoing below-par performance.

It would be good for the Reds if they would bring in a regular full-back and explore some other options than Luke-Shaw. Their hectic defensive performance was quite evident in their drastic 3-0 defeat against Liverpool in their last Premier League fixture before the beginning of the international break.

It has also been reported that Erik Ten Hag and co. are likely to push harder for Robinson and Kekez, which certainly clears that they will knock on the door of their Premier League rivals, either Fulham or Bournemouth.

United are in desperate need of a good left-back who can match the professional skills of someone like Luke. Despite spending a heavy amount of time in the treatment bed last season, the 29-year-old is regarded as one of the prime athletes in English football. But both his and Tyrel Malacia’s injury troubles make them less than reliable options to play week-in, week-out.

Considering the scenarios of the potential new signing, it is likely to see who gets convinced by the plans and vision of the Manchester-based club. Currently sitting at the 14th spot in the Premier League table, they will be eager to make a mighty bounceback against Southampton on September 14.
