Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will have a sizeable transfer budget to spend this summer
According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester United are ready to provide a £140 million transfer budget to manager Erik ten Hag in order to strengthen his squad over the summer transfer window.
After an end-of-the-season review conducted by new co-owners INEOS since the FA Cup final win over neighbours Manchester City in May, the club has decided to keep Erik ten Hag, 56, in place as manager for a third campaign. INEOS, spearheaded by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have shown faith in the Dutch tactician, who has won two trophies in as many years at Old Trafford.
Despite his team’s woeful Premier League campaign, Ten Hag guided Manchester United to FA Cup success after eight long years. The club are now ready to offer him a new contract and back the 56-year-old in the transfer market to rebuild his squad.
Football Insider claims the Red Devils’ transfer budget could significantly enhance depending on sales this summer, with the likes of Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho and Casemiro among others set to be moved on from their books.
Man United couldn’t sign players during the January transfer window to comply with the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules and regulations, instead, they trimmed their squad by loaning out the likes of Hannibal Mejbri, Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri.
The 20-time English champions have been partially hamstrung by Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) with top-flight clubs only allowed to incur a loss of £105million over a three-year period, but the report adds that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority takeover—including a massive reduction of the wage bill—has given the club a lot of room to manoeuvre over the summer transfer window, beyond the June 30th cut-off date.

While the club are likely to spend well in this transfer window, Ten Hag reportedly does not want to give up his involvement in the transfer business which has been limited significantly under the new structure.

It would be great to see our manager work under a proper structure and give his input in transfer dealings. Hopefully, INEOS recruit the right players that fit his system and help Ten Hag evolve the squad next season.
