Mancjester United are still in for Arsenal target Benjamin Šeško, claims Fabrizio Romano

Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester United are still in the race for the signature of Arsenal target Benjamin Šeško.

The Slovenia international has been on the Red Devils’ radar since his Red Bull Salzburg days. His stock has only risen after his first season at RB Leipzig.

Šeško has recently been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, though Romano believes other Premier League sides may yet pounce on the 21-year-old.

“Now, Sesko has to decide whether he wants to stay at Leipizg and extend his contract or leave and probably go to the Premier League. So, first step has to be this one. Then, which clubs? They all remian in the race, nothing has been decided yet, I can guarantee about that. Sesko is still taking his time to decide between Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal. These three clubs are in the race, everything is still open, Sesko has not accepted anything yet. He has all the projects in front of him, so it’s up to Benjamin Sesko basically to decide what he wants to do.”

Šeško is currently part of the Slovenia team getting ready for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024.

United should not be targetting Šeško

With Anthony Martial off, we need a new striker.

Man United already have a young project forward in Rasmus Højlund, for whom they spent big money last summer. Bringing in Šeško on the back of that would only hamper the Dane’s progress and prove to be an unnecessary, profligate move.

If United are to go for a forward in the summer, they’d be better off targetting an experienced forward, a short-to-mid-term solution to partner Højlund in goal-scoring duties.
