As reported by Portuguese outlet Ojogo, Manchester United are willing to make a big effort to sign 19-year-old Liverpool target Joao Neves. However, their effort might not be enough as they face a £102m hurdle.

SL Benfica are not at all willing to let go of Neves who made 55 appearances for them last season recording three goals and two assists. Apart from being impressive in domestic competitions the 19-year-old also shined bright in the UEFA Champions League.

His performance has caught the eyes of a number of top-flight clubs Ojogo states Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich are showing interest in the player. However, his £102m release clause will be a huge hurdle to get over.

Neves has all the makings of a world-class player and could be one of the best midfielders if his development is handled well. However, paying £102m for him before he’s the finished article might not seem appealing to his suitors.

Now, both Liverpool and Manchester United can certainly afford Neves’ release clause. However, it is now a question of whether they’d be willing to break the bank for him or not. The Red Devils and the Anfield crowd have both hit a huge hurdle.

There is also the possibility of someone else triggering the 19-year-old’s release clause so Manchester United will have to act quickly. If not, they could lose out on an absolute gem.
