Journo reveals Manchester United's new top target; could spell the end for Luke Shaw?

Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez appreciated by Manchester United

According to reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are monitoring Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.

Milos Kerkez, 20, enjoyed an impressive debut season at Bournemouth after arriving for a fee of around £15.5m from Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar. He instantly became a mainstay in Andoni Iraola’s side, although an injury absence for more than a month before and after Christmas, and a red card suspension, limited him to only 28 Premier League appearances.

Manchester United had already been tipped to dip in the transfer market for a new left-back, with Fabrizio Romano now taking to Twitter to confirm the club’s interest in Milos Kerkez. The Hungary international is one of the names on the Red Devils’ radar.

Presently, the 20-year-old, regarded as one of the best up-and-coming left-backs, is appreciated by Man United but no talks have taken place between the two clubs so far.

The 20-time English champions faced a lot of trouble at left-back this past campaign, owing to injuries to both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. Shaw managed only 15 appearances in all formats after two substantial periods on the sidelines with muscle problems, while Malacia endured his injury nightmare and failed to get on the pitch.

The Dutchman, who suffered multiple setbacks during his rehabilitation from knee surgery, was supposed to be the Red Devils’ fix for the injury-prone Shaw.

However, Malacia’s season-long injury forced Erik ten Hag to use Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof and Sofyan Amrabat as left-back at different junctures of the campaign.

As a result, Man United are planning to recruit a new left-back this summer which could spell the end for Shaw. The England international did not play a single game after mid-February, leaving Ten Hag frustrated, and perhaps the time is right for the club to move him on this year.

Kerkez has been scouted throughout the season, and after living up to his potential in his debut season at the Vitality Stadium, Man United may look to bring him in as a potential long-term replacement for Shaw.

However, Romano feels any approach from us would likely be met with a high asking price from Bournemouth.
