Manchester United in race with surprise PL rivals for the 'next Moises Caicedo'

Manchester United are interested in signing Oscar Zambrano to strengthen the midfield

According to The Sun, Manchester United could miss out on signing Oscar Zambrano, as Luton Town also has a keen interest in acquiring his services. This kind of situation reminds us of when Moises Caicedo signed for Brighton.

Oscar Zambrano currently plays for LDU Quito, a club from his native country, Ecuador. The potential cost for Zambrano is around £5 million, and Luton is aiming for a major victory by enticing him to join their club. Adding him to our squad could be a significant boost, as he has the potential to enhance our depth.

At only 19 years old, Zambrano’s move to England could facilitate his development into a better player. Manchester United’s recent form appears lacklustre, despite their comeback against Brentford. The midfield needs to inject more creativity and are struggling despite the presence of our captain Bruno Fernandes and the former Real Madrid midfielder, Casemiro.

Christian Eriksen has made some progress in addressing this issue, but he still struggles significantly off the ball. While Sofyan Amrabat and Kobbie Mainoo have joined the team, they seem more industrious than creative.

Although he may not be a ready-made solution, given how much United have regretted not pursuing Caicedo, trying to sign Oscar Zambrano looks like a wise idea. He is a raw gem that needs further refining. Give it a couple of seasons and we might have a special player in our hands.

Despite the presence of the likes of Mason Mount, Bruno and Eriksen, three of the best attacking midfielders in the world, United are struggling to create. It only shows that the problems run deeper than just the players.

Casemiro seems to have lost a lot of pace and energy, two things he was synonymous with in his prime and his decline has been unprecedented. It has affected the foundation on which the team was built last season. Injuries in defence haven’t helped the cause either.

One more thing is that even if the midfielders create chances, none of the attackers with the exception of Rasmus Hojlund are taking their chances. What would the midfield do if the forwards don’t score goals from the chances they create?

Just signing Zambrano is not going to solve anyone’s problems but he will be a key part of the puzzle if we manage to get him. Manchester United have many jigsaw tiles missing at the moment. How, when and if Erik ten Hag can find them could go a long way in shaping their season and future.
