Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is confident of securing a deal for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount
According to The Telegraph (h/t Manchester Evening News), Erik Ten Hag is confident of securing a deal for Chelsa midfielder Mason Mount in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Mount has come as a surprise target for United in the past few days after it has become evidently clear that the player does not see his future at Stamford Bridge despite the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as the new head coach.
In all fairness to Mount, the situation at Chelsea is a mess with a bloated squad and no clear direction of where the club is headed.
At 24, he has the required Premier League experience with 129 appearances already under his belt and still a lot of years in his prime if all other conditions are met.
Therefore, he does provide an exciting option for managers of many top teams in the Premier League with Ten Hag being one of them.
Speculations have been made in the last few days that Mount prefers a move to United over Liverpool, who have also enquired about the player.
Now it is a matter of the clubs coming to an agreement which would be rather tough as selling a player to a direct rival always involves complications.
While Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic have both made the switch from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford in the past, the situation surrounding Mount is different as Chelsea does want to keep him and sees him as an essential part of the project under the new ownership.
It will be an interesting start to the summer window for us but very different from how last summer window had started. This is partly due to the fact that we have a lot more to offer to players than one year ago.
There were question marks over where the club is headed but Ten Hag has come in and steadied the ship while laying down the foundations for the long-term project.
Everyone can see it and the fact that we can provide UEFA Champions League football this time around will surely be a major factor in convincing top players to join the club.

Mount, if coached well and given a solid role has the potential to be a top player. Ten Hag wants to play with two advanced 8’s for the upcoming season and a pairing of Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount and Casemiro just behind them would be an exciting midfield.
