Lisandro Martinez to be handed improved Manchester United contract
As per Sky Sports, Manchester United want to reward Lisandro Martinez with a new and improved contract after a fantastic first season at the club.
The report states that the club has told the player’s representatives that the improved contract offer will extend the current deal duration-wise. At the moment, he is contracted at Old Trafford till the summer of 2027 (Transfermarkt). That may increase soon.
But, it is also revealed that the offer will only come once the club’s takeover is done in the coming days. That saga has gone on for a long time now.
Martinez himself is happy at the way he settled himself at the club after a wobbly start. His solid partnership with Raphael Varane has been the basis for United potentially finishing inside the top four and breaking the trophy duck of six years.
Although he is currently for the season after suffering a metatarsal bone injury during the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie against Sevilla a few weeks ago, the former Ajax defender is nominated to become the club’s player of the year.
The 25-year-old is a fighter and a technically strong player. His height has not deterred him to go for aerial and physical duels and win most of them. He is also a very good passer of the ball and reads the game exceptionally well.
While Martinez may have to wait for the new contract offer, the intention is right from United to give him the added incentive to stay at the club for as long as possible.
