Christian Eriksen gives verdict on Manchester United win vs Wolves

Manchester United star Christian Eriksen feels the Red Devils did their job in the “must-win” fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves).

The Old Trafford side welcomed Julen Loptegui’s team home in the Premier League on Saturday (13 May). After consecutive losses in the league, the Manchester-based club got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory.

Speaking to MUTV (h/t Manchester Evening News), the Denmark international, 31, started the match and was happy to see United bounce back after the recent disappointments.

“It was a must-win. After two losses, we don’t like losing and we haven’t done it that many times. We have a few times, but we have always bounced back and we’ve done it again.”

Wolves struggled to get going in the game. It was the home team who had the upper hand on most occasions. We were the ones creating the most threat throughout the game.

The Molineux Stadium side hardly troubled David de Gea in between the sticks. In the end, it was West Midlands-based club’s goalkeeper Daniel Bentley who kept it down to a respectable scoreline for Lopetegui’s team.

United created a number of chances in the opening minutes. We got the breakthrough in the 32nd minute with a goal from Anthony Martial. The French national was set up by Antony, who was lively in certain periods of the fixture.

After that, there was a long stretch of the game where the Red Devils had opportunities but were unable to make the most of them. Eriksen was taken off at around the 80-minute mark. Thankfully, in stoppage time, Alejandro Garnacho, who came on as a substitute, put a seal on our win.

Having slipped up against Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United, the Old Trafford side have given Liverpool, who are fifth in the table, some hope for a top-four finish. Hopefully, now, we will be able to secure Champions League football for the upcoming campaign.

The three points are even more encouraging, considering we are without some of our key stars. Now, it remains to be seen whether the Manchester-based club will get similar results in the final three league matches of the season.
