Manchester United ‘set to speak’ with shot-stopper Dean Henderson regarding future

Manchester United are ‘set to speak’ with shot-stopper Dean Henderson regarding his future at the Old Trafford side, according to ESPN (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The England international joined Nottingham Forest on loan in the summer of 2022. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old’s season came to an abrupt end after picking up an injury in January.

As things stand, David de Gea is the number one in between the sticks for the Red Devils. However, the Spain international’s current contract with the Manchester-based club is set to expire at the end of the season.

Thus, the 32-year-old’s stint at the club could potentially come to an end next month. Therefore, we will evidently need to bolster the goalkeeping department in case the former Atletico Madrid star departs.

Henderson is a quality shot-stopper still on our books. There was a period a few years back when the English national looked to be the future first choice at Man United.

The goalkeeper’s temporary move to Sheffield United was fruitful and he was counted on by the Red Devils in the 2020/21 season, sharing minutes with De Gea.

However, the 26-year-old fell down the pecking order and hardly played in the previous campaign. The former Atletico star regained his form and was ever-present in the Old Trafford side’s starting lineup.

Subsequently, when Henderson joined Forest on loan, he blasted Man United for his lack of game time. With the Tricky Trees, the shot-stopper has showcased his talent and has attracted admirers in England and abroad.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the 26-year-old. The English national was never really given a chance to make the goalkeeping position at the Old Trafford side. Will that happen next season? Only time will tell.
