Bayern Munich turn attention to Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins from Manchester United target Harry Kane
Bayern Munich have turned their attention to Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins from Manchester United target Harry Kane, according to the Mirror (h/t Manchester Evening News).
Apart from the Red Devils, the Tottenham Hotspur striker is also on the Bundesliga giants’ radar. But now, the Bavarians are eyeing a move for the Birmingham-based club’s 27-year-old centre-forward.
Watkins has been at Villa since the summer of 2020. Over the last few campaigns, the England international has constantly hit double figures in goals for the Lions in the Premier League.
Bayern parted ways with Robert Lewandowski last summer. The Poland international joined Barcelona. Subsequently, the German outfit bolstered their front line with Sadio Mane.
However, the Bavarians have had to rely on Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as their number nine in the current campaign. The 34-year-old has exceeded expectations, though.
On the other hand, United want a number nine in the upcoming transfer window. Kane has been identified as the Red Devils’ top target by Erik ten Hag. But Tottenham Hotspur will hold out for £100 million.
Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst are the only two natural strikers at the Dutch manager’s disposal at the Old Trafford side. Unfortunately, the gaffer has not been able to count on the French national due to his injury issues.
Marcus Rashford has shouldered the burden of the Red Devils’ attack this season. The England international has been the only reliable attacker for the former Ajax head coach.

Therefore, we evidently need a prolific goalscorer in our ranks. It remains to be seen whether Bayern’s decision to monitor Watkins will affect their decision regarding the pursuit of Kane. Hopefully, United will be able to pip the Bavarians to the English skipper’s signature.
