Erik ten Hag did not want to risk Luke Shaw injury in Manchester United win over Brentford

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag did not want to take a risk and exacerbate a possible injury that Luke Shaw might have picked up in the Brentford win.

Against the Bees, the England international started the match. The left-back looked decent in the game. Unfortunately, in the 37th minute, the 27-year-old had to be replaced by Tyrell Malacia. The former Southampton star was seen holding his hamstring.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News after the 1-0 victory over the West London club, Ten Hag revealed that he was being cautious with Shaw’s substitution. The gaffer is waiting on an update regarding the left-back.

“I can’t say in this moment (what the injury is). I have to wait for tomorrow, what the diagnosis is, I took him straight off, didn’t want to risk. But we have to wait what’s the outcome.”

United welcomed Brentford on Wednesday (5 April) in the Premier League. At Old Trafford, the Red Devils were looking to exact revenge on the Bees. In the reverse fixture at the start of the season, we lost 4-0.

The Manchester-based club dominated the proceedings for most of the match. In the first half, we took the lead through Marcus Rashford, who has been in fine form this season.

In the end, United managed to hold onto the three points. Defensively, the Red Devils were solid and did not allow Thomas Frank’s team to create a lot of opportunities.

Shaw has been a key player in Ten Hag’s plans in the current campaign. Barring a few negative displays at the start of the season, the England international has been the Dutch manager’s first choice at left-back.

The 27-year-old recently put pen to paper on a new contract, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2027. Ten Hag seemingly has immense faith in the 27-year-old.

Therefore, Shaw’s injury scare could be a big blow with the business end of the campaign upon us. Hopefully, nothing significant has happened to the England international and he will be available on the weekend for United.
