Gary Neville believes Manchester United will still finish top four despite recent losses in the league
Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville, while speaking on Sky Sports via Twitter believes that Manchester United could still end the season in the top four despite a recent slump in form.
It has not been the best of days for United supporters who were dreaming about a potential title fight just over a month ago and now see the team right back in the top-four qualification battle.
With the 2-0 loss to Newcastle, the victors have leapfrogged us in the league table and currently sit third and are level on points with United.
While Tottenham Hotspur is yet to play this game week and if they win their game against Everton tomorrow, we would be out of the top four positions and things could start to look a little messy.
However, Neville believes that despite the recent slump, United could end the season with a top-four finish taking into account the worrying signs in big away games.
United have only defeated Fulham away out of all the teams in the top half of the table and it certainly sheds a darker light on the away games as compared to the amazing record at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag would be aware of the congestion of fixtures that are coming thick and fast and with the team still in running in two more cup competitions, he would need the maximum from each player for a successful season-ender.
The loss against Newcastle once again highlighted the importance of Casemiro as a midfielder and the contrast to how the team plays once the Brazilian is not playing.
Casemiro was probably the difference maker when the two sides met in the Carabao Cup final, in which we came out victorious.
