Facundo Pellistri delighted with recent opportunities at Manchester United

Uruguay international Facundo Pellistri is happy with recent first-team opportunities Erik ten Hag has handed him at Manchester United.

The 21-year-old made his long-awaited debut for the Red Devils earlier this year in a 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. Coming on as a substitute in the final minutes of the fixture, the youngster provided an assist.

Since then, Pellistri has been handed regular chances in the team. Speaking to ESPN (h/t Manchester Evening News), expressed his delight at being able to get on the pitch for the Old Trafford side.

“It makes me very happy to have more participation in the team. I recently played as a starter, that helps you feel better both in training and on a day-to-day basis.

“Hopefully I can follow this path, continue contributing, and at the end of the season I can win all the possible titles with the club.”

Recently, in the second leg against Real Betis in the Europa League, the 21-year-old was handed his first start for United. The forward played the full 90 minutes as the Red Devils beat the La Liga outfit 1-0.

Pellistri signed for the Old Trafford side in the summer of 202 from Penarol in Uruguay. However, he subsequently spent a considerable time out on loan at Deportivo Alaves.

At the start of the season, Erik ten Hag did not seem to trust the youngster. However, the 21-year-old still played a pivotal role for his national side in the 2022 World Cup.

Since then, the forward has made it into the gaffer’s plan. He has made seven appearances in all competitions so far for United and has provided one assist.

Pellistri still has a lot to prove at the Old Trafford side. However, it would be wise for the youngster to bide his time, just like Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine has now become a key player for the Red Devils after putting in some clutch performances.

Hopefully, the Uruguayan will be able to do the same and carve a place for himself in the senior side. But in the coming future, will the 21-year-old be able to fulfil his potential at the Manchester-based club? Only time will tell.
